BIBLE STUDY: The Holy Spirit of God: The Third Person of a Trinity, or The Power of An Almighty, Eternal God? (Part Two)

In American churches today, there is a line drawn separating denominations and faith groups into two camps; those who believe in the doctrine of the trinity, and those who do not! The term “Trinity” is not found anywhere in the Bible; and is not an easy concept to grasp or explain, even by those who embrace it. Join us today as we continue our pursuit of Biblical Truth, and let Jesus Christ himself, answer the matter of just who or what the Holy Spirit of God really is!

This Bible Study is a continuation from:

The Holy Spirit of God - The Third Person of a Trinity, or The Power of An Almighty, Eternal God? (Part One)

Bible Study Instructions: One Nation Under God Ministries (www.onug.us) publishes and distributes weekly Bible Studies, worldwide – free of charge, to anyone who requests them, in both printed and electronic formats. Our Studies are intended to be a simple and fun way to learn the Scriptures, and are very easy to follow! We adhere to Jesus Christ’s Biblical instructions to teach and feed the flock of God portions of meat in due season, on weekly Sabbaths, and on the seven annual Holy Days throughout each calendar year (Luke 12:42 / Isaiah 28:9-10 / Matthew 13:52). Using both the Old and New Testaments, our Bible Studies are designed to present a premise, make a statement, or ask a question – followed by one or more Scriptural references. Just look up and read from your Bible the Scriptures listed. Comments following questions elaborate on the Scriptures you just read. Pray always before beginning any study of God’s Word, asking God to open both your eyes and your mind to His Truth; then Prove everything you read, is in fact the Truth, by comparing it to The Word of God (1 Thessalonians 5:21 / 2 Timothy 3:15-17). Then use the Biblical System of Checks and Balances, and SEE if both Jesus Christ, and the First Century Church of God Apostles – also Did, Said, and Taught these SAME THINGS (Galatians 1:1-12, 5:25 / 1 Peter 2:21, 25 / 1 John 2:3-6)! That’s all there is to it! Our Bible Studies are based on the King James Version, unless otherwise stated. We will be praying for your eyes to “see” (Matthew 13:11-17); and we are always available to answer any of your questions! Be Blessed, in Jesus’ Name! - One Nation Under God Ministries (www.onug.us).

If you are joining us from last week’s study, welcome back! If you missed part one, we invite you to go to www.onug.us and catch up on what you missed.

In part one, we discussed how the Holy Spirit of God remains one of the most misunderstood elements in Christian theology today! However, Jesus Christ said we can cut through all the religious confusion, and all the mystery; and actually understand what the Bible really tells us about the Spirit of God. But we are going to have to believe Jesus meant what He said, and said what He meant on the matter… and not everyone will!

“Not everyone can accept this Word, but only those to whom it has been given” – Jesus Christ (Matthew 19:11).

Last week, we also read how Jesus made it plain, that big time religious leaders would reject His clear teachings! Jesus said that even though He was teaching these “masters” of theology and religion; assuring them from what the Father and Christ personally knew and had seen, they would reject His teachings anyway (See John 3:10-12). Remember, the Bible is very clear that God frequently hides His Truth from the wise and the scholarly (Matthew 11:25-27). These wise and prudent Christian experts ignore the very personal example that Jesus Christ set for us in the flesh: they ignore His Sabbath, they ignore his Holy Days, they ignore His Teachings; changing them instead into soothing false versions which make them feel warm, fuzzy, and comfortable inside! It is no wonder that they also change the Godhead into a lie too; putting their fallen angel god into the Holy Throne Room wherein ONLY God the Father and Jesus Christ rule (John 8:44)! Jesus calls these children of the devil incapable of understanding His Word (John 8:43, 45, / Matthew 13:11, 15). With Obedience come Understanding (John 7:16-17 / Psalm 111:10).

Last week we explored a great deal of Scriptures dealing with the Godhead. With but a few variations in words, EVERY apostle ignores the Holy Spirit when referring to the Godhead in Heaven!!! Would it not be gross insubordination for them to recognize two in the highest offices in the universe and yet totally ignore the third (Matthew 28:18 / 1 Corinthians 15:24-28)? The apostles did this, because they did not know the Holy Spirit as a personality within the God Family! They did this because Jesus taught them no such thing!!! The Holy Spirit is the POWER God uses to direct and carry out His purposes within His creation!

Today, we will research and prove HOW God does some pretty remarkable things by that Power; and WHY God has Plans to do even Greater Things, by that same Power, in the years ahead (Colossians 1:26-29 / 2 Corinthians 13:5-6 / Galatians 2:20 / Ephesians 3:17-21 / 1 John 4:4-9 / Romans 8:10-39)! The Bible is VERY CLEAR, that although Jesus Christ is in the Third Heaven, sitting next to Our Father; Jesus Christ can be “in us” at the same time – IF WE POSSESS GOD’S SPIRIT which is given to us at Baptism (John 14:15-31, 17:13-26)!

Because we have the Spirit of our Heavenly Father dwelling in our mortal flesh; you and I are guaranteed Eternal Life at the First Resurrection from the dead, at the Return of Jesus Christ! Because we have the Spirit of God in our mortal flesh, or are obediently learning and preparing for Baptism – to obtain God’s Spirit; we can declare that Name, “Thy Name”, the Family Name of God!!! The Spirit of God gives us the Power of God, makes us co-heirs with Christ as the Children of God, it makes Peace with God, teaches us to begin to think like God, talk like God, obey God as Christ obeyed God, preach like Christ, teach like Christ, heal like Christ, and LOVE like Christ – when we have the Spirit of God inside us!

“And I have declared unto them Thy Name, and will declare it: that the Love wherewith Thou hast loved Me may be in them, and I in them!!!” (John 17:26). God demonstrates Hs Love to us by giving us His Holy Spirit (John 3:16). Now when most people read John 3:16, they don’t understand it in the light of receiving The Holy Spirit; they think mostly in terms of what Jesus did on the Cross – but that is very limited thinking – and designed to be very limited thinking by Satan himself! But let’s continue (John 3:17-21). Are you beginning to understand that unless YOU have the Holy Spirit of God inside you, YOU will be and are already condemned with this world? Our being chosen by God is pure and simple GRACE (John 15:15-16)! But ONLY after receiving the Holy Spirit, can we be reconciled to God (Romans 8:14-15)! It is only after receiving God’s Spirit that our deeds or works are ACCEPTABLE or WROUGHT IN GOD (John 3:21 / Matthew 16:27 / Romans 2:1-10 / Revelation 22:10-17)! www.onug.us

That is why Jesus took the time out to explain to Nicodemus HOW and Why he needed to be Born Again (John 3:3-8). Nicodemus didn’t understand Jesus (John 3:9-10)! And many, many religious authorities and teachers still DO NOT understand Jesus today, regarding this extremely important matter (John 3:11-12)! You see, John 3:13 AND John 3:16 are HEAVENLY THINGS, and MOST Christians today simply cannot understand that:

  1. We don’t ever go to heaven – now or ever!
  2. Believing in Jesus Christ – does not means ONLY in His death, or Him as the Savior dying on the Cross (where most churches stop today); Believing in Him means believing in His Gospel Message of God’s Coming Worldwide Government, His selection of the Saints, and their Repentance, Baptism, and Conversion process of learning to become obedient, growing in grace and knowledge, and producing Fruit and Works – by which we receive Eternal Life at the First Resurrection (Revelation 22:14, 5:10. 20:6 / Daniel 12:2-3)!!! www.onug.us

“Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew Him not. Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when He shall appear, we shall be like Him; for we shall see Him as He is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as He is Pure!!!” (1 John 3:1-3)

Father, I will that they also, whom Thou hast given Me, be with Me where I am; that they may behold My Glory, which Thou hast given Me: for Thou lovedst Me before the foundation of the world!” (John 17:24).

God the Father, has chosen you and I to receive His Holy Spirit in our mortal bodies, at this time in human history; even before He laid the foundations of this world! Now that’s a Promise with Power! That’s a Promise ONLY a Very LOVING Heavenly Father would give to His Kids, “The Very POWER of God”!!! Thank You Father; and Thank You Jesus – You both have such an EXCELLENT PLAN in store for those of us that love you and obey you!!!

The Great Deception:

Satan CANNOT allow us to KNOW that Plan or to UNDERSTAND that Plan; because if we do, we fall away from his deception, become aware of God’s Great Mystery of The Ages! Once our eyes are open, we will Return to God and begin to follow His Plan (Matthew 13:15-16)!

The Big Lie:

“If you tell a big enough lie, and tell it frequently enough; it will be believed!” – Adolf Hitler

“For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost; and these three are one” (Found in many Bible translations in 1 John 5:7).

Let’s see what Daniel B. Wallace says about this scripture and its textual problem (Wallace has taught Greek and New Testament courses on a graduate school level since 1979. He has a Ph.D. from Dallas Theological Seminary, and is currently a professor of New Testament Studies):

“This reading, the infamous Comma Johanneum, has been known in the English-speaking world through the King James translation. However, the evidence – both external and internal – is decidedly against its authenticity. Our discussion will briefly address the external evidence.

This longer (added) reading is found only in eight late manuscripts, four of which have the words in a marginal note.  Most of these manuscripts (2318, 221, and [with minor variations] 61, 88, 429, 629, 636, and 918) originate from the 16th century; the earliest manuscript, codex 221 (10th century), includes the reading in a marginal note which was added sometime after the original composition. Thus, there is no sure evidence of this reading in any Greek manuscript until the 1500s; each such reading was apparently composed after Erasmus’ Greek NT was published in 1516. Indeed, the reading appears in no Greek witness of any kind (either manuscript, patristic, or Greek translation of some other version) until AD 1215 (in a Greek translation of the Acts of the Lateran Council, a work originally written in Latin). This is all the more significant, since many a Greek Father would have loved such a reading, for it so succinctly affirms the doctrine of the Trinity. The reading seems to have arisen in a fourth century Latin homily in which the text was allegorized to refer to members of the Trinity.  From there, it made its way into copies of the Latin Vulgate, the text used by the Roman Catholic Church. www.onug.us

The Trinitarian formula (known as the Comma Johanneum) made its way into the third edition of Erasmus’ Greek NT (1522) because of pressure from the Catholic Church (Revelation 22:18). After his first edition appeared (1516), there arose such a furor over the absence of the Comma that Erasmus needed to defend himself. He argued that he did not put in the Comma because he found no Greek manuscripts that included it. Once one was produced (codex 61, written by one Roy or Froy at Oxford in c. 1520), Erasmus apparently felt obliged to include the reading. He became aware of this manuscript sometime between May of 1520 and September of 1521. In his annotations to his third edition he does not protest the rendering now in his text, as though it were made to order; but he does defend himself from the charge of indolence, noting that he had taken care to find whatever manuscripts he could for the production of his Greek New Testament. In the final analysis, Erasmus probably altered the text because of politico-theologico-economic concerns: he did not want his reputation ruined, nor his Novum Instrumentum to go unsold (1 Timothy 6:10).

Modern advocates of the Textus Receptus and KJV generally argue for the inclusion of the Comma Johanneum (meaning 1 John 5:7) on the basis of heretical motivation (holding an opinion at odds with what is generally accepted) by scribes who did not include it (Matthew 7:13-14).

Textus Receptus (Latin: "received text") is the name given to the succession of printed Greek texts of the New Testament which constituted the translation base for the original German Luther Bible, the translation of the New Testament into English by William Tyndale, the King James Version, and most other Reformation-era New Testament translations throughout Western and Central Europe. The series originated with the first printed Greek New Testament, published in 1516—a work undertaken in Basel by the Dutch Catholic scholar and humanist Desiderius Erasmus. Although based mainly on late manuscripts of the Byzantine text-type, Erasmus' edition differed markedly from the classic form of that text, and included some missing parts back translated from the Latin Vulgate. www.onug.us

It is important for us to understand, that the criticism of these so called “heretical” scribes is unfounded, because these same scribes elsewhere include thoroughly orthodox readings—even in places where the TR (Textus Receptus)/Byzantine manuscripts lack them. Further, these KJV advocates argue theologically from the position of divine preservation: since this verse is in the TR, it must be original. But this approach is circular, presupposing as it does that the TR = the original text. Further, it puts these Protestant proponents in the awkward and self-contradictory position of having to affirm that the Roman Catholic humanist, Erasmus, was just as inspired as the apostles, for on several occasions he invented readings—due either to carelessness or lack of Greek manuscripts (in particular, for the last six verses of Revelation Erasmus had to back-translate from Latin to Greek).

In reality, the issue is history, not heresy: How can one argue that the Comma Johanneum must go back to the original text when it did not appear until the 16th century in any Greek manuscripts? Such a stance does not do justice to the gospel: faith must be rooted in history. To argue that the Comma must be authentic is Bultmannian (or drifted so far away from Biblical TRUTH) in its method, for it ignores history at every level.  As such, it has very little to do with biblical Christianity, for a biblical faith is one that is rooted in history. www.onug.us

Significantly, the German translation done by Luther was based on Erasmus’ second edition (1519) and lacked the Comma. But the KJV translators, basing their work principally on Theodore Beza’s 10th edition of the Greek NT (1598), a work which itself was fundamentally based on Erasmus’ third and later editions (and Stephanus’ editions), popularized the Comma for the English-speaking world. Thus, the Comma Johanneum has been a battleground for English-speaking Christians more than for others.

Unfortunately, for many, the Comma and other similar passages have become such emotional baggage that is dragged around whenever the Bible is read that a knee-jerk reaction and ad hominem argumentation becomes the first and only way that they can process this issue. Sadly, neither empirical evidence nor reason can dissuade them from their views. The irony is that their very clinging to tradition at all costs (namely, of an outmoded translation which, though a literary monument in its day, is now like a Model T on the Autobahn) emulates Roman Catholicism in its regard for tradition. If the King James translators knew that this would be the result nearly four hundred years after the completion of their work, they’d be writhing in their graves.”

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Apostle Peter warned us men would come after him and twist the Word of God, and also twist the teachings of Christ’s very own Apostles (2 Peter 3:10-17). This has happened already, and many who now profess to be Christians or followers of Christ, now deny the supernatural manifestation of miracles, deny the Laws of God are still in effect, they deny the Plan of God, they deny His Sabbath and Holy Days, and they deny the very essence of God!

Like rust, Satan has his forces working to erode the Truth, night and day; from the “official debut” of the trinity theory at the first general council of churches (The Council of Nicaea in 325 A.D.), right up to our present time! The delusion is so complete, that few in the world today actually know that the concept of three separate and distinct co-equal, co-eternal, and co-existent “persons” is not mentioned anywhere in their Bibles. The trinity is NOT a Biblical term, given to us by God; but is rather a word that originates from false, and pagan gods! The trinity doctrine has crept into the garden like a weed, and has spread; slowly choking those who are not producing fruit, and are now in danger of death (Matthew 13:38)!

Fruits of the Holy Spirit:

When the Holy Spirit works within us, our lives produce what the Bible calls, “the fruits of the Spirit” (Galatians 5:22-23); that is, the elements of the very character of God. As we grow in them, we show both God and our fellow man that we are maturing into the image of Christ! It is the Holy Spirit inside us that motivates us, and produces these “Fruits” on our tree (Matthew 7:15-20).

Now let’s look at some more scriptures that show us, and help us to understand, that God’s Spirit is His Power; a Power which when given to flesh and blood humans, allows them to understand God’s Word, to become more Christ-like, and is a Power that when it is placed inside us – at Baptism by the laying on of hands – ensures we will come up in the First Resurrection as Spirit Sons of The Most High God: (Genesis 1:2-3 / Isaiah 32:15-17 / John 7:37-39, 14:16-20 / Romans 8:9-14 / 1 Corinthians 2:9-16, 12:4-11 / 2 Timothy 1:6-14 / 2 Peter 1:1-21)!!! www.onug.us

The Holy Spirit is the power of God; NOT a personage, NOT an entity, NOT a consciousness, or a part of the Godhead; and “it” is certainly NOT a trinity! The Bible speaks of the Spirit as the power or mind of God; it is the power of Love and of a sound mind. It emanates from God, and therefore can be “poured out” (Titus 3:5-6). Jesus, “breathed on”, His disciples to give them His power (the Holy Ghost) in John 20:22. This was just a few hours after His resurrection (John 20:19 / Matthew 28:1-2) on what we would call Saturday evening. Jesus did not have “Uncle Holy Spirit” inside Him, and He didn’t release another god being which was hiding inside Himself, by breathing him out upon His disciples! Jesus gave His disciples the VERY SAME Power of God, which God had given to Jesus, through the POWER of His Holy Spirit (John 14:8-14).

This is the very same power God “filled” the house with, and “poured out” on His Church on the Commanded Biblical Feast of Pentecost (Acts 2:1-4, 14-22). It is the POWER that God “anointed” Jesus with to do good, and heal all that were oppressed by Satan, because GOD WAS WITH HIM through the POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT (Acts 10:38).

To whom does God give His Spirit (Luke 11:13 / Acts 2:38, 5:32 / Ephesians 1:13-14 / 1 John 3:24)? Although Jesus says God gives the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him; the Bible further qualifies this with some conditions. God will give His Spirit only to those who have demonstrated, in attitude and behavior; that they have repented. Those who, repent, must be baptized and obey His commandments (Matthew 28:18-20 / Mark 16:15-20). No one who continues to live a lifestyle apart from God’s Law has received the Spirit of God, or has the power of God working in him (1 Corinthians 3:16-23 / 2 Corinthians 3:1-18). You certainly do not have the Spirit of God inside you, if you are worshipping it from afar! If God is calling you; The Spirit of God will lead you, and convict you of TRUTH, as YOU begin to study and prove Scripture (Isaiah 28:9-10/ Matthew 13:52 / 1 Thessalonians 5:21 / John 4:23-24)!

According to the Bible, Baptism should be in Jesus’ Name, and NOT in the Holy Sprit’s name!

Those who believe in a trinity usually follow the Trinitarian formula for baptism, which they have created using the scriptures found in Matthew 28:19. However, the setting for this verse is the Great Commission; it is not intended to be instructions from Jesus on how to baptize. These are some of the last words that Jesus spoke to His disciples before He ascended up to heaven.

“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:19).

We must point out that the word “name” used here is singular. This is very significant. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit all have one name (singular), according to this Scripture. We are NOT going to try and explain this passage away. These are the very words of Jesus Christ! But we must ask ourselves, what does this mean? We must not take this one passage in isolation and ignore everything else that the Bible has to say about baptism (Remember Isaiah 28:9-10 / Matthew 13:52). We must let scripture interpret scripture, and look at ALL that the Bible has to say on any given subject.

Also, this is not the only account of the Great Commission. There is a reason why we have the four gospels. God inspired each writer to write the same truth, from a different point of view. The apostle John does not record the Great Commission; but we can see what the others had to say on the matter. When we look at Mark’s account we read:

“Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will follow those who believe: In my name (singular usage again!) they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues” (Mark 16:15-17).

We can see that Mark records the command to go and baptize, but does not speak of a specific name, only a singular name, in connection with baptism. However, we do see a mention of Jesus’ name in the very next verse. More importantly we need to look at how the apostles actually obeyed these commands which we can see in the book of Acts. But first let’s look at Luke’s account:

“and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. And you are witnesses of these things. Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high” (Luke 24:47-49).

How clear it should be to you right now! Here we read a command to preach repentance and remission of sins, in His Name (which is fulfilled in Acts 2). If we look at the preceding verse (Luke 24:46), we can see that the pronoun His refers to “Christ”. So repentance and remission of sins are to be preached in Jesus’ Name!

How do we receive the remission of sins? Well, let’s look at what Jesus’ disciples did with this command:

“Then Peter said to them, ‘Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit’ ” (Acts 2:38).

So we can see that there are three different accounts of what Jesus’ commanded His apostles to do at the Great Commission. Now we must look at how they obeyed Jesus’ words. We should also be aware that Jesus died after the Passover meal (on the 14th day of Abib), He was buried for 3 days and 3 nights (as He said), and was afterwards on the earth for 40 days after the resurrection (Acts 1:3). From the Passover until Pentecost is 50 days (Pente- means 50); so only about a week transpired between Jesus commission (in Matthew 28) and Peter’s sermon on Pentecost. Surely the Disciples of Christ didn’t forget His commands that quickly! It is also interesting to note that the apostle Matthew, who later wrote Matthew 28:19, was present as well (Acts 1:13)! Shouldn’t Matthew have stood up and stopped Peter, if Peter was preaching the wrong thing in Acts 2:38? One would think so ("Hey Pete, don’t you remember what Jesus said . . . ")! But we don’t see that occurring here, do we? So we then must reconcile these two facts:

Jesus said this in Matthew 28:19, “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:”

And…

Now remember, All the Apostles went along with this 7 days later, in Acts 2:38, “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost”.

We have to ask ourselves, who would be in the best position to understand the clear meaning of Jesus’ own words? You and I - almost 2,000 years later; or His own disciples, to whom He spoke them to, personally, just a week prior to this big event?

Throughout the book of Acts, the Disciples of Jesus routinely baptized people in Jesus’ name!!! And when we read the Epistles to the churches, we will find out that they too were baptized in Jesus’ name! So it is obvious that Jesus’ disciples understood the name (singular) of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost to be “Jesus” (Acts 19:1-7 / Romans 8:9-10 / Acts 8:12-25)!

NOWHERE in scripture do we find anyone baptizing new Christians using the words, “the Father, Son and Holy Ghost”! Nowhere! They instead, baptized only in Jesus’ name!!!

“Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other Name (singular) under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12 / and that is “Jesus”, according to verse 10)! Although this verse may not be talking exclusively about baptism, we see that Jesus is the name by which we are saved, and that there is no other! www.onug.us

Let’s Recap some actual Baptisms in your Bible:

“But when they believed Philip as he preached the things concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, both men and women were baptized” (Acts 8:12).

“For as yet He (it) had fallen upon none of them. They had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus” (Acts 8:16).

“And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord” (Acts 10:48).

“When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus” (Acts 19:5).

“And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the Name of the Lord ” (Acts 22:16).

Peter, John, and the rest of the disciples baptized in the Jesus’ Name throughout Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria. Paul even re-baptized the believers in Ephesus in Jesus' Name (see Acts 19:1-5). “When they heard this, they were baptized in the Name of the Lord Jesus.” www.onug.us

Let’s even look at some of the other churches in Rome:

“Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?” (Romans 6:3).

“Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life” (Romans 6:4).

The reason that we are baptized in Jesus’ name is that we are being baptized into Jesus. We are taking on his name, similar to the way a woman takes on her husband's name after marriage (Revelation 19:9 / Matthew 22:2 / Luke 14:15 / Revelation 1:1, 19).

The Spirit of God is like an engagement ring, given to the bride, as a Promise to wed (1 John 2:25-29)!!! We are saying, when we repent of our sins and confess Jesus Christ as our Savior at Baptism, that we belong to Jesus!!! We are also identifying with Him, in His death and burial (Romans 6:4-17)! Even if God could become a trinity, and He cannot; Jesus is the one who died for us, and He is the One Whom the Christians at Rome were buried with! www.onug.us

“Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?” (1 Corinthians 1:13)

If we follow Paul’s train of thought, his obvious implication is "No, Christ was The One crucified for you and so you were baptized in the Name of Christ"!!! So the believers at Corinth, as well as those in Rome, were baptized in ONLY Jesus’ Name!

“For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ” (Galatians 3:27).

“In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead” (Colossians 2:11-12).

In addition to those in Rome, Corinth and Ephesus (as well as Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria), we see that the Christians in Colosse and those in the region of Galatia were all baptized in Jesus’ Name! They would not have connected baptism so exclusively with Christ had they routinely baptized using the words "Father, Son and Holy Spirit." As we repeatedly SEE over, and over again, The Only Way that we see anyone being baptized in the Bible, is in Jesus' Name!!!

When Jesus’ was on this earth, He baptized His disciples (John 4:1-2) and then commissioned them to go and baptize others in His Name, or in His Place. When Jesus baptized someone, He didn’t have to say "in Jesus name." He was Jesus!!! But when we stand in His stead, we do it in His Name. Scripture tells us that whatever we do in word or deed should be done in Jesus’ Name (Colossians 3:17). Baptism is an act of both word and deed – It most certainly should be done in Jesus’ Name!!!

History must also weigh in, on how a great part of modern Christianity came to regard God the Father, and His only Son, as a trinity – when there is no scriptural authority to do so! www.onug.us

The Catholic Church, once upon a time; CHANGED the way that people were baptized! From that point on, people continued to follow this “tradition”; probably because it fit so well with their Trinitarian doctrines! Notice:

The Holy Spirit is God’s Power! www.onug.us

God calls us to a knowledge of His Truth by His Power, His Spirit (John 6:44-45, 63, 14:26, 16:13 / 1 Corinthians 2:7-14). No person by scholarship, human reason or intelligence can comprehend the whole Truth of God apart from the Holy Spirit. Only by the intervention of the Spirit are we called to understand it. God, by divine revelation through the help of the Spirit, opens our minds to the "mysteries" of the Truth, allowing us to discern what is truly vital to our salvation (Matthew 13:11, 16, 16:13-20)!

The GIFT of Having The Spirit of God Inside You:

Does the Holy Spirit have other functions (Isaiah 11:2 / John 14:26 / Acts 9:31 / Romans 8:26-27)? God's Spirit imparts wisdom and understanding. It teaches His way of life, comforts and helps us. Even when we cannot express ourselves in our prayers, the Spirit aids us in making our requests known before God!

By what is a person known (Matthew 7:20 / John 15:8, 16)? What is God developing in us, His called-out children through the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22-25 / Ephesians 4:1-3, 13-16, 22-24)? A person is known by his fruits (actions, works), and a Christian is to bear much good fruit. By giving the Spirit to those He has called, God is creating and shaping traits in them that produce the fruits of the Spirit!

Will the knowledge of Who God really is, and the opportunity to receive both the Holy Spirit and eternal life, be given to everyone after Christ's Second Coming (Isaiah 11:9 / Ezekiel 39:29 / Joel 2:28-29 / Zechariah 12:10-14)? www.onug.us

Yes, Mankind will eventually do away with their falsehoods about God the Father, and what His Son really came to earth to do; and they will lament and mourn over their deception!

Man can ONLY learn how to live under God's rule, ONLY if the Holy Spirit is given to him. From the time Adam rejected God's offer in Eden; God has not since offered salvation to humanity as a whole. When Christ established His church, God began offering His Spirit only to those He called to be “first fruits” (John 7:39). The GOOD NEWS of The Gospel is that in the World Tomorrow (after the return of Christ), God will give everyone this opportunity! Praise God!!!

What does the Holy Spirit deliver us from and what gift comes from it (Romans 6:23, 8:9-11 / Ephesians 1:13-14 / 1 John 5:11)? The Holy Spirit delivers us from death and leads us to the gift of eternal life. We inherit mortal life through Adam, but God gives His Spirit to endow eternal life on His faithful and obedient children. Since the Spirit is God's gift, neither are we born with it, nor can we earn it (1 Corinthians 15:20-23).

What evidence makes it apparent that the Holy Spirit is working in us (Matthew 7:16-20 / John 15:1-8 / Galatians 5:22-25 / 2 Timothy 1:6-7)? Once we are given the Holy Spirit from the Father; we must continually be led by it, bearing spiritual fruit throughout our lives. If we are producing the fruits of the Spirit, we are exhibiting a sound mind, and we CAN know it is working in us!!!

The Spirit is the mind and essence of the divine nature, and through it God carries out His will. It empowers the mind to comprehend spiritual matters, producing conversion. It gives us the strength, will, and FAITH to overcome our sins. Is there evidence of God's Spirit working within you?

We cannot be a Follower of Christ and “NOT” OBEY His Commands (Romans 8:14)! This verse defines a TRUE CHRISTIAN (see also Romans 8:9)!  A True Christian is one who has the Holy Spirit! But we must know in TRUTH, who God is, and who He is not!  www.onug.us

How do we get this power of an Almighty God, the Holy Spirit?

We repent (Mark 1:15) and believe in the ONLY Gospel.

Then we are to be baptized (Acts 2:38) for the remissions of sins, IN JESUS’ NAME; then we will receive the GIFT of the Holy Spirit by the laying on of hands! God’s Spirit will then lead us in understanding all of His TRUTH! Amen!

We hope that you now have a deeper and a more scripturally accurate understanding of just what Jesus and His apostles taught us about the Spirit of the Living God; and also of the wonderful Truths that Christ came to proclaim to those who follow Him through the power of that Holy Spirit (Matthew 10:1-42)!!!

May we all be about our Father’s Business, as Jesus Christ both Showed us and Commanded us to be! Let us go out to a lost world and Preach The Coming Kingdom of God! Let us Heal the sick, Cleanse the lepers, Raise the dead (both the physically and spiritually dead); let us cast out demons and destroy their strongholds! Freely we have received such AWESOME Promises and Blessings; now let us freely GIVE to as many as will receive us and our words!

“But the hour cometh, and now is, when the True worshippers shall worship the Father in Spirit and in Truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship Him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and in Truth” (John 4:23-24).

You now know the Biblical TRUTH about the Spirit and the Power of God! Amen!

The First Century Church of God is still alive and well; and we are still about our Father’s Business! Thank you for joining One Nation Under God Ministries (www.onug.us) today in the Study of God’s Word! We so enjoyed having you here; and we hope to see you again next Sabbath!!! The sad state of affairs today is that the vast majority of Americans are Bible illiterates (Hosea 4:6). They simply have never read the book which they profess to regard as the “Word of God”. If we are to change this, we must begin using the Bible as our primary source of education, to learn about God and His teachings (Matthew 6:33).

If you have never faithfully kept God’s seventh day Sabbath holy or God’s Holy Days, the way Jesus Christ did – in the flesh, and in the fellowship of other followers of the Son of Man (Hebrews 10:25); we invite you to obediently enter into God’s rest today, and to keep the Feasts of the LORD (Hebrews 4:1-11 / Leviticus 23:1-44)! Contact us to find out where we fellowship and worship God, in your area, on His Sabbath Days (Exodus 31:12-18). We would love to hear from you and help get you started!

Join us on-line each Sabbath and Holy Day at www.onug.us where you can download our Bible Studies, or join us on facebook to listen in to our live webinar each week.

”But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. I and my Father are one” (John 10:26-30).

Christians must learn to read the Bible, interpret the scriptures according to Biblical principles (Isaiah 28:10, 13), and begin to apply the precepts they learn in their walk with God. Individual study is essential; coupled with fellowship times of group study, worship, and discussions of personal insights and observations.

We strive, each Saturday, to foster an open and welcoming atmosphere where Spirit led confirmation, clarification, questions, and correction can be made in the fellowship of other students of God’s Word.

One Nation Under God (www.onug.us) is working to unify the body of Christ in the worship of God the Father, in the way Jesus showed us to - in Spirit and in Truth! We strive to promote rediscovery of American History, and renew in current generations the Vision and the Covenant of our Founding Fathers.
