BIBLE STUDY: The Kingdom of God, The Name of Jesus Christ, and Water Baptism

What Does Your Future Have To Do With These Three Things? Can you Scripturally answer the Who, What, When, Where, How, and Whys to the above question? There remains much confusion in the world today concerning “The King’s Dominion (or King-dom)”, Jesus the Christ, and a Baptism by water. Let’s now compare what we presently know, to what the Bible, Jesus, and the Apostles actually said, and see if there are any things we must do differently; and to see if there is anything we are commanded to do, that at present, we have left undone!

Today we are going to look at Scriptures that will clearly show us EVERYONE who has ever lived, or will ever live - is going to have to confront the Kingdom of God’s full implementation in the affairs of man (Genesis 3:19 / Daniel 2:44-49 / Matthew 3:1-10 / Hebrews 12:26-29 / Revelation 11:3-18 / Romans 6:23 / 1 Timothy 6:16 / Roman 3:23 / Matthew 7:13-14); we are going to have to come to terms with both the Name, and the person of Jesus Christ, as a Mighty King – ruling upon all the earth (Psalm 47:1-9 / Nehemiah 1:5, 7-10 / Psalm 76:12, Romans 14:10-12 / 1 John 5:11-12); and we are all going to have to make a decision, now or after the Second Resurrection, to obediently follow, or rebelliously reject, Jesus Christ’s teachings on Water Baptism (Isaiah 59:20-21 / Matthew 3:11-17 / Mark 1:14-15 / Luke 3:7-10, 16-18, 24:44-49 / Acts 3:19, 5:31-33, 8:12 / 1 Peter 2:21 / Acts 17:30).

“Not everyone can accept this Word, but only those to whom it has been given” – Jesus Christ (Matthew 19:11).

This Bible Study follows: “The Holy Spirit of God: The Third Person of a Trinity, or The Power of An Almighty, Eternal God?”

If you haven’t joined us in that study, we invite you to go back and review it here:

Our ability to effectively worship God requires us to know exactly who and what God is, and what He is not (John 4:22-26 / Matthew 15:9-10 / Isaiah 29:13 / Mark 7:7 / Colossians 2:1-22).

Your Salvation by the TRUE God, once He has revealed himself to you; requires Water Baptism and the Laying on of Hands, in order to receive the Power of God! In order to receive the Holy Spirit you must repent, take part in water baptism, and through the laying on of hands, you then receive the Holy Spirit of God:

“But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women” (Acts 8:12-13, 17-19).

The First Principles of The Kingdom of God:

When someone hears the Gospel of God’s Coming Kingdom, and understands that Jesus Christ is only working with, and revealing Truth to those who will come up in the First Resurrection (1 Peter 2:1-10, Hosea 4:1-6, Revelation 20:4,6; 5:9-10), that the rest of the world, the majority of people who have ever lived, will have to wait until the Second Resurrection of the dead - in order to fully grasp God’s Plan to redeem ALL of mankind (Revelation 20:5,12-13 /Ezekiel 37:1-6,10-14, 23-28; 36:26 / Psalm 51:10 /Jeremiah 24:7 / Zechariah 7:12 / Ezekiel 11:19, 18:31 Matthew 11:20-24, 28-30); when someone hears the Gospel of God’s coming Kingdom, and they are led by God to repent in faith (John 6:44); their NEXT STEP is water baptism, a primary principle of Jesus Christ, followed by the laying on of hands – by which we receive God’s Holy Spirit, which in turn will allow us to be raised from the dead at Christ’s coming and rule with Him (Hebrews 6:1-2)!

Jesus intended for us to grow in the faith, after receiving His Spirit, growing from the milk of the Word, eventually into eating the strong meat of the Word (Hebrews 5:11-14 / Isaiah 28:9-10)! But we must be careful, once saved, not to fall away, and lose our eternal salvation! Some teach, incorrectly, “that once saved – always saved”. But Christ tells us in His Word, that it is possible to fall away and lose our Salvation (Hebrews 6:3-12 / Revelation 3:11, 2:1-29, 2 Peter 2:1-22). Be diligent, and not slothful, and we shall inherit the promises Christ makes to us!

Those who wish to inherit eternal life (Luke 18:18) must understand and take part in two basic ceremonies: water baptism and the laying on of hands, in order to receive the Holy Spirit! These are the first steps toward being OBEDIENT to Christ (Luke 18:19-30 / Mark 10:28-31 / Matthew 19:27-30 / Revelation 5:9-10). There is one more Baptism we must also go through (Matthew 3:11-12, Isaiah 4:4, Luke 3:16-17, 2 Peter 3:10-18, Revelation 21:1-8).

Those whom God is calling will have their minds opened by God! They know they are not worshipping a triune Godhead; they worship God the Father through His Son, Jesus the Christ (John 1:1-14 ).

If you do not have the spirit of God inside you, you cannot know who God is, and you certainly will not know who He is not! Those with the Spirit of God inside them, will confess the name of Jesus Christ and live by His every Word. They will believe, and live by, Christ’s example and teachings.

The Structure of God’s Family… From the pages of your very own Bible:

Consider what Jesus and His Disciples taught about the very relationship of God the Father to Jesus Christ the Son…

“James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.” (James 1:1)

“To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.” (Romans 1:7)

“Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Corinthians 1:3)

“Grace be to you and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.” (2 Corinthians 1:2)

“Grace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ,” (Galatians 1:3)

“Grace be to you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.” (Ephesians 1:2)

“Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.” (Philippians 1:2)

“To the saints and faithful brethren in Christ which are at Colosse: Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.” (Colossians 1:2)

“Paul, and Silvanus, and Timotheus, unto the church of the Thessalonians which is in God the Father and in the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Thessalonians 1:1)

“Grace unto you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.” (2 Thessalonians 1:2)

“Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God our Saviour, and Lord Jesus Christ, which is our hope; Unto Timothy, my own son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord.” (1 Timothy 1:1-2)

“To Titus, mine own son after the common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour.” (Titus 1:4)

“Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.” (Philemon 1:3)

“Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,” (2 Peter 1:2)

“That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.” (1 John 1:3)

Adherents of the trinity doctrine assert that the Holy Spirit is a personality alongside the Father and the Son. Yet, when the apostles, especially Paul, referred to the God Family in their epistles; why is the mention of the Holy Spirit almost totally neglected (James 1:1 / 2 Peter 1:2 / 1 John 1:3 / Romans 1:7 / 1 Corinthians 1:3 / 2 Corinthians 1:2 / 1 Thessalonians 1:1 / 2 Thessalonians 1:2 / 1 Timothy 1:1-2 / 2 Timothy 1:2 /Titus 1:4 / Philemon 1:3)?

Where is the Holy Spirit? Is James not a servant of the Holy Spirit (James 1:1)? Is he a servant only of God and of Jesus Christ? Could Peter have neglected, or just plain forgotten to mention, the “knowledge of the Holy Spirit” in 2 Peter 1:2?

Is there no “fellowship with the Holy Spirit” in 1 John 1:3? Why do the apostles continually ignore this?

Is it possible that our joy may be full, only in the fellowship of God the Father and Jesus the Christ (1 John 1:4)? Is this not exactly the case as written for us in Revelation 21:10-11, 22-24?

Could it be that the Roman Pagan practice of a triune godhead, of inserting Satan, the god of this world, with the Father and the King of kings, making a family of two – into an unscriptural family of three; is exactly like putting darkness with God’s light and Truth (1 John 1:5-6)? That cannot happen! The trinity is a lie, and an abomination to God! Those who believe in, and worship this lie of a trinity do not know God! All who continue to make and teach this lie will not enter into God’s Holy City; and ultimately, unless they repent, will not find their names written in the Lamb’s Book of Life (Revelation 21:27)!!!

Those whom God is calling will have their minds opened by God!

They are led by God to repentance, after hearing the True Gospel of the Coming Kingdom of God to this earth; and they are correctly immersed, or Baptized, in the Name of Jesus - for the remission of their sins. Those whom God is calling come up from out of that water, being baptized in Christ’s death, and receive the Holy Spirit of God through the laying on of hands.

You must be baptized with the knowledge of who Jesus is, what He has done for us, what baptism means for you, and with the expectation that you WILL receive the Holy Spirit after baptism (Acts 19:1-7)! It is only these who will come up in the First Resurrection, raised to Life by the very same Spirit of God which raised Jesus from the grave and gave Him Life - after three days and three nights. Those whom God has called, and baptized, have the promise of eternal life at the return of Jesus Christ! They have God’s Spirit, His Power dwelling in their flesh, guiding them in all understanding, growing them in grace and knowledge; enabling them keep the sign of God, to remain faithful and obedient to their God and their Father in heaven!

The words baptize” andbaptism”, are derived from the Greek verb baptizo, meaning "to dip or immerse." Dip means "to immerse and then quickly take out." Immerse means "to plunge under, so as to cover completely”. From these definitions, it is clear that immersion is the biblical method of baptism. Baptism by immersion symbolizes our death and burial, while rising out of the baptismal water symbolizes a resurrection to a new life in Christ (Romans 6:1-19). Jesus was completely submerged when He was baptized; He was completely covered by water (Matthew 3:16).

Remember, how Philip baptized the Ethiopian eunuch (Acts 8:26-39)? The two men had stopped by a river, because there was much water there (see: John 3:23), "And Philip said, if thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God… and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch, and he baptized him." Why did they both go into the water? So Philip could baptize the eunuch by immersing him completely under the water. Then, rising out from the water, the eunuch could begin a new life in Christ – with God’s Holy Spirit!!!

Jesus also told His followers, "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost" (Matthew 28:19). We spoke of this, at great length in out last Bible Study on the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38 / John 3:16-17 / Acts 10:34-48). The Greek word here for "in" can also be translated "into" the family of God (The Father and the Son); one then receives the Holy Spirit, when baptized “in” Jesus’ Name!

When a follower of Christ, possessing God’s Holy Spirit, submerges a new believer, completely under the water; he is performing a symbolic burial of the "old man" (2 Corinthians 5:17 / Isaiah 43:18-19, 65:17 / Ezekiel 36:26 / Romans 6:4) he performs the act in the name of, or by the authority of, Jesus Christ. He also puts the person in, or into, a new relationship with God. We now become the children of God, developing and growing on this earth, awaiting the resurrection when we will be “born again” into God’s Kingdom (John 3:3-13 / Revelation 20:6).

Now the new believer, through the laying on of hands, has God’s Holy Spirit dwelling inside him or her; as opposed to merely having God’s Spirit working on, or influencing their mind – from the outside!

God’s Spirit woos us, or calls us, to come into an obedient relationship with His Son, Jesus; much as a man calls on a lady, asking her finally to marry him (John 6:44 / Jeremiah 31:3 / Hosea 11:4 / John 6:39). If we accept the Father’s invitation to join with His Son, as a man and woman join intimately after marriage; if we are baptized and receive God’s Spirit through the laying on of hands – we are fertilized, or begotten by the Spirit of Almighty God (John 3:16 / Hebrews 11:17-19 / Genesis 22:2-13 / 1 John 3:1-3).

As an egg cell is fertilized with a sperm cell, rapid growth begins in the new believer; some detectable to us (swelling of the mother’s belly) and other growth detectable only to God – but to be revealed at the believer’s “birth” (born again) into the Kingdom of God at the First Resurrection (John 3:3, 6-8 / 1 Corinthians 15:20-23, 33-45, 50-55)!!! When we are Born Again, at the Resurrection, BECAUSE we were Baptized into Christ’s death; we will look like our Father God, and we will look like our elder Brother, Jesus - at our new “Spiritual Body” BIRTH (1 John 3:2 / Revelation 1:3, 8, 12-20; 20:4)!!!!!!!

If this is not a reason to accept God’s calling in your life, I don’t know what is!!!

A symbolic death and burial

Baptism symbolizes in part our being united with Christ in death and burial in a figurative sense (Romans 6:3-4). In God's eyes we are united together in the likeness of His death, that our old man (the sinful person we were before) was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin (Romans 6:5-6)!

Before the miracle of repentance, we are slaves of sin. Paul explained to the Romans that, once we are baptized into Christ, Our old man was crucified with Him, and we have freed from sin" (verses 6-7).

But we are redeemed - bought back - from enslavement to sin by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ (1 Peter 1:18-19 / Revelation 5:9). Having been purchased by God, we now belong to Him (1 Corinthians 6:20)! Being converted from slaves of sin to slaves of righteousness, we no longer serve sin (Romans 6:18). Our new way of thinking is one that now bears the fruits of repentance (Galatians 5:22-25). If we live in the Spirit, let us NOW walk in the Spirit!!! After Baptism, after we receive God’s Holy Spirit, we can now love our brethren, as Christ loves us (1 Peter 1:22 / John 13:34). You will begin to grow, act, and live, in a way you NEVER did before (Luke 23:34 / Acts 7:60 / 2 Peter 3:9, 18 / Ezekiel 33:11 / 2 Timothy 1:7 / Matthew 24:13)!

If you want to truly “Walk in the Spirit” and be a Real Follower of Christ, now that you have a scripturally correct understanding of what that means (Luke 6:46 / Malachi 1:6 / Matthew 7:21 / James 1:22-25), and have a God-given desire to be “Born Again” at the Return of Jesus Christ to this earth (Romans 8:14); you must be obedient to God, and be Baptized into the death of Christ (Romans 5:9-10 / 1 Corinthians 15:12-18, 20-23)! We are reconciled to God the Father, by the death of His Son (a death that we also participate in by our baptism); but we are SAVED by His LIFE and resurrection, which we WILL RECEIVE at our resurrection – at HIS COMING, if we have the Spirit of God dwelling inside us (Romans 8:11)! Amen! Amen! Amen!

“And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord” (Acts 22:14-16, 2:37-42 / 1 Peter2:21).

If you have accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, and you are in agreement with, and have “gladly received” (Acts 2:41) the Word of God, as presented here; we invite you to make a public and obedient profession of your faith in Jesus Christ – “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost” (Acts 2:38).

“Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls” (Acts 2:41).

Bring a towel, and a change of clothes, and we will see you at the beach! Then all of us can properly welcome “YOU” into the family of the Most High God (Romans 10:9-15)!!! You will then belong to Jesus Christ, freed from sin, and walking in newness of life (Colossians 3:3-4)!!!

“I repent of my sins; I believe that Jesus is the Son of God!”

“Then according to your faith, and your confidence in the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord, I baptize you in the Name of Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins.” “Receive the Holy Spirit of God!”

”But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. I and my Father are one” (John 10:26-30).

Christians must learn to read the Bible, interpret the scriptures according to Biblical principles (Isaiah 28:9-10, / Matthew 13:52), and begin to apply the precepts they learn in their walk with God. Individual study is essential; coupled with fellowship times of group study, worship, and discussions of personal insights and observations.

We strive, each Saturday, to foster an open and welcoming atmosphere where Spirit led confirmation, clarification, questions, and correction can be made in the fellowship of other students of God’s Word.

One Nation Under God U.S.A. ( is working to unify the body of Christ in the worship of God the Father, in the way Jesus showed us to - in Spirit and in Truth! We strive to promote rediscovery of American History, and renew in current generations the Vision and the Covenant of our Founding Fathers.
